Churchill Mathematics Masterclasses

This year has seen the beginning of the Churchill Mathematics Masterclasses.  These classes provide our very best gifted and talented mathematicians the opportunity to extend themselves beyond (and outside of) the curriculum
with other equally talented students in the international schools of Beijing. The master-classes are by invitation only from the Head of the Mathematics Department at each school.  The classes give students the opportunity to receive training, practice and tips toward the UK Mathematical Challenge (UKMC) and similar other contests as well as allow students to network with other similarly gifted mathematicians from  other schools in Beijing.  The students pay a nominal amount which then goes to the charity nominated by Churchill House at Harrow International School Beijing.

On Saturday 24th October there was a presentation by the students and teachers involved donating funds to Agape House.  Yong Woo, Year 13 at Harrow International School Beijing, writes "Last Saturday the Churchill Mathematics Masterclass donated RMB 5300, collected from the students taking the class, to Agape Foster House. The Churchill Mathematics Masterclasses are extra classes arranged by international school teachers around Beijing. The aim of the Masterclass is to provide the most talented mathematicians from several different international schools the opportunity to extend themselves beyond the curriculum and is by invitation only. There are no fees for attending the classes (thanks to the teachers who kindly gave up their Saturday morning teaching for free) but the students donated some money which went straight towards Agape. This money will be used to make a therapy pool because in Agape there are many children who cannot walk due to a disease and with a therapy pool they can practice walking underwater. I hope this money could help them to eventually walk outside on the ground."
