March 19th to 23rd was Book Week 2018 at Harrow Beijing. Taking the theme of 'Fantasy', the whole school ran a series of fun activities to celebrate literacy and reading.
A Peter Pan themed parent-child party was held in Early Years. All the pupils, parents and staff dressed up as characters in the book and had fun enjoying the make-believe of children's fantasy fiction. The activity also developed the pupils' passion for reading.
The Pre Prep and Upper School ran a series of themed workshop during the week. Two visiting authors, Mr Will Mabbitt and Mr Simon Shieh visited Harrow Beijing and spent the week with the students running inspiring workshops with a focus on creative writing and poetry. Sharing his own experiences and opinions about poetry, Mr Shieh encouraged students to read and understand poems in different ways. Immersed in his workshop, students listened with baited breath and laughed along with the literature.
Friday was Book Character Dress-up Day, and almost 700 children and staff dressed as characters from fantasy series such as Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, and Lord of the Rings; Peppa Pig and Monkey King also made appearances. The winners were awarded their prizes in assembly. Ms Astill, the Learning Resources Manager, said, 'All in all it was a very successful Book Week!'
